Extension Council Elections on October 16, 2023

calendarOnce again it is coming up on election time. The Johnson County Extension Council elections will take place on Monday, October 16 at the Extension Office in room 1060 from 9 am to 6 pm.

The Extension Council is made up of members from the elected Program Development Committees (PDC’s) which helps to make the backbone of our Extension work in Johnson County.  Elections are held each year to elect members to our four Program Development Committees. The four committees are Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Vitality/Development.

Qualifications:
  • At least 18 years old and a resident of Johnson County
  • Interested in working within the philosophy and mission of K-State Research and Extension.
  • Willing to work closely with the local extension agent and other members of the PDC.
  • Sincere interest in improving the quality of life for Johnson County community residents

Individuals are elected to a two year term. Each PDC consists of six members, with three members up for election each year. The 24 PDC members make up the Extension Council. The 24-member Extension Council then elects a nine-member Extension Council Executive Board at their annual meeting to be held on November 20 this year.

PDC members are responsible for working with agents to plan, prioritize, and implement a comprehensive educational program designed to meet the needs of individuals and target issues affecting communities. Program Development Committees are a key component of Extension. They are strong supporters of Extension within the community and work closely with agents to help develop future programming ideas within the county. I hope you will support your candidates and vote on October 16.
