Extension Council
The Johnson County Extension Council is composed of 24 members.
Six members are elected in each of the four Extension program areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H/Youth Development, and Community Development.
The Extension Council represents the citizens of Johnson County, Kansas. They are the “voice” of the community, giving the agents and Extension Director feedback and guidance. They are made up of businesspeople, community leaders, farmers, homemakers, teachers, etc, and have an interest in Extension.

Anyone interested in running for Council who meet the eligibility requirements, can fill out a nomination form and turn it in up until the morning of the Extension Council election, which is usually held in early October each year. Executive Board Elections
Following the elections, the new County Extension Council elects from its own members nine individuals to serve on the County Extension Executive Board, consisting of a chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer and five other members. This takes place at the Annual Meeting, usually held three weeks after the election.
Johnson County residents 18 years and older are eligible to vote in the Extension Council elections.
Election date: October 20, 2025
Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Location: Extension office, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1500, in Olathe.
Requirements: A driver’s license is required to verify age and residency.
Johnson County residents are encouraged to vote and elect 24 members to the Extension Council. The Extension Council is a key component of the Cooperative Extension service. They are strong supporters of Extension within their community and work closely with agents to help develop future educational programming for Johnson County residents.
Each member is elected for a two-year term and may be elected for two consecutive terms. To qualify for election to the council, a candidate must be a resident of the county and at least 18 years of age when elected.

JOHNSON COUNTY EXTENSION COUNCIL
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with K.S.A. 2-611, as amended, State of Kansas, that on Monday, November 12, 2025 at 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1500, Olathe, KS 66061, beginning at 6:00 PM, the members of the County Extension Council shall meet for the purpose of: (1) electing from among their members an Executive Board consisting of a chairperson, a vice chairperson, a secretary, a treasurer and five additional members; (2) organizing the Program Development committees for Agricultural and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H and Youth Development, and Community Vitality initiatives; (3) consideration of the County Extension Education Program. All County Extension Council representatives of Agricultural and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H and Youth Development and Community Vitality initiatives are urged to attend.
