Healthier Hot Cocoa

Serves 2

cocoaEveryone loves a cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter morning. This take on the classic hot cocoa allows you to ditch the powder stuff and make a delicious cup from scratch.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: cinnamon stick

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat milk until simmering.
  2. If using cinnamon, add the stick now.
  3. Whisk in cocoa powder, maple syrup and salt.
  4. Add chocolate chips and vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk until heated and chocolate chips are melted.
