Personal History/Background

Chelsea brings a unique background to her current role with experience in international and local health and nutrition programming and rural and urban food systems. Chelsea grew up in rural central Iowa on the family farm raising hogs and was active in 4-H during her youth. It was during her undergraduate work Chelsea found her passion for educating and helping individuals and communities have the knowledge and resources to live healthier lives.

After completing her master’s in public health, Chelsea joined Peace Corps and lived in rural Zambia serving her community as a health educator dedicated to improving the health and nutrition of young children and women of reproductive age. Chelsea moved back to the US and continued her career in Washington DC in international development with a focus on food security and nutrition research and program implementation. After seven years working in international development, Chelsea wanted to shift her career back to focusing on local food systems and nutrition. She found her way back to the Midwest to the Kansas City metro to complete her dietetic internship through Northwest Missouri State University.

Chelsea enjoys working with individuals of all age groups, families, and communities. Her favorite part about outreach and education is helping others have the ‘aha’ moment on a topic and hearing success stories on how a program impacted their health.
