4-H youth in swimming poolSummer means camp! What better way for a youth to explore and develop lifelong skills than attending an overnight camp.

The American Camp Association’s Benefits of Camp: Psychological Aspects reports:

“In recent years camps have put a greater emphasis on what leaders in the child development field have been saying about the needs of children today. Camp activities and group living in a natural environment are the tools used to create camp communities that provide for successful, healthy development and a place where having fun is a daily criterion. In such a structured environment, children interact with positive role models who have time to listen, talk, relax, and reflect. They learn to work together, make choices, take responsibility, develop creative skills, build independence and self-reliance, and gain confidence. All are necessary steps on a child's path to a healthy, productive life.”  See more at: http://www.acacamps.org/press-room/benefits-of-camp/psychological-aspects#sthash.63q7Jx47.dpuf

New this year we are offering a shorter overnight experience for our younger youth! Our Wild Clover 4-H camp will be held at the Wildwood Outdoor Education Center in LaCygne, Kans. this summer. The camp will be a two-day, overnight adventure for youth wanting to get a mini camp experience. Activities include swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, hiking, and singing around a campfire.

This shorter outdoor experience will allow youth to get the feel for overnight camp yet in a shorter time frame. The goal of progression in our 4-H programs is a key element. Adding this camp into our traditional summer schedule will help support the younger youth with positive outdoor experience.
