4-H Events and Programs

This page is devoted to many of the opportunities, programs and activities 4-H has to offer. Although we are not limited to the things listed on this page.

4-H Council
Each 4-H Club elects two 4-H representatives and two adults to participate in this group. They meet every other month for a total of six times a year. This group plans 4-H activities and events for the county, as well as forming a budget for County Council.

4-H Foods Throwdown
Put your 4-H cooking knowledge and skills to the test in this new 4-H event. Work as a team of 4 and compete to win over the taste buds of three judges. Teams must work together to plan, cook, plate, and present their knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and food preparation.

Achievement Night
An annual event to honor 4-H members and leaders. Awards given include membership pins, Key Awards, project pins and leader awards. Everyone involved in 4-H is encouraged to attend. 4-H'ers can receive awards by filling out Record Books.

Ambassadors
The Johnson County 4-H Ambassadors work together as a team to promote and develop 4-H in our county. These individuals go through an extensive interview process in order to become an Ambassador.

Camps
There are several camps to choose from in Johnson County. Overnight camp takes place every year at Rock Springs Ranch near Junction City, KS. We also offer a variety of day camps.

Club Day
This is an opportunity for 4-H'ers to showcase their skills in public speaking, music, and performance arts. Learning to preform in front of a crowd is one of the many great things 4-H has to offer.

Countywide Projects
Project leaders hold meetings that are open to all of Johnson County 4-H.

Food Fare
Partnering with the Master Food Volunteers, 4-H clubs create food stations based on a theme. A new theme is chosen each year and ranges anywhere from countries of the world to literature. Participants then get to walk around to the different stations and sample food relevant to the theme.

Johnson County Fair
The annual event where 4-H'ers exhibit an end product of their current 4-H projects for evaluation. Judging is done by a variety of evaluation methods. Exhibitors are awarded purple, blue, red, or white ribbons based upon a judge's decision. Purple winners are eligible for State Fair if age requirements are met. Typically the "Fair Edition" of the Clover Clips is published in May. A fair book explaining rules and classes is available late in June.

Kansas State Fair
The Kansas State Fair is located in Hutchinson, Kansas. For more details visit the Kansas State Fair website at http://www.kansasstatefair.com/.

Livestock
This includes any 4-H project that involves animals! The Livestock page is a resource to 4-H'ers with information about upcoming deadlines, shows, events and meetings.

Mr. and Miss 4-H
A long standing tradition for the older youth of Johnson County 4-H to compete for the title of Mr. and Miss 4-H. They help out with different events throughout the year and are the "face of 4-H."

Officer Training
Newly elected officers and anyone interested in learning about an officer position are invited to attend Officer Training sessions.
