Johnson County 4-H Teams up with Extension Master Naturalists for Summer Outdoor Experiences

“Kansas Wild Kids," our local Junior Extension Master Naturalist Program, provides youth ages 7-14 opportunities to learn more about our natural resources. While Kansas Wild Kids and 4-H have both been long established programs, we have yet to spotlight them together.

Youth enrolled in 4-H will benefit from these Saturday morning programs, because they give them an in-depth look at projects such as geology, wildlife, forestry and entomology. Having this time with experts in these areas will allow 4-H’ers to become that much better at mastering each area that brings them the most interest.

Youth in our community that do not have experience with 4-H will become familiar with these areas and gain insight into how 4-H sparks curiosity and learning. From entomology and geology displays to forestry posters, youth have many ways to showcase their knowledge.

One of the most notable ways is at the Johnson County Fair. It is through these showcase events that youth are provided feedback in order to grow in these educational areas of interest.

With a variety of topics and locations explored, youth can become familiar not only with Johnson County Extension, 4-H and Extension Master Naturalists, they also will become everyday explorers within our community.
