JoCo Unite in Action: Securing and Diversifying Funding and Looking Ahead

Sustaining meaningful community impact requires more than strong programs and partnerships require a solid and adaptable foundation of support. Through JoCo Unite, Goal 5 focuses on securing and diversifying funding to ensure that Johnson County K-State Extension can continue to grow, innovate, and respond to the evolving needs of the community.

Extension work is made possible through a unique blend of public investment and community support. County, state, and federal funding provide a critical base, while grants, program fees, and private contributions expand what is possible. This layered approach allows Extension to remain both stable and flexible—able to maintain core services while exploring new opportunities that address emerging issues.

Diversifying funding is not simply about increasing resources; it is about strengthening long-term sustainability. By pursuing a mix of funding sources, Extension can reduce reliance on any single stream and better position itself to adapt as community priorities shift.
