JoCo Unite in Action: Expanding Program Delivery and Accessibility

Across Johnson County, community needs continue to evolve and so does the way K-State Extension delivers programs. Through JoCo Unite, Goal 3 focuses on ensuring that educational opportunities are not only relevant, but also accessible to all residents, regardless of age, background, or circumstance.

This commitment begins with listening. Extension remains grounded in its five critical issue areas: Global Food Systems, Health, Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders, Community Vitality, and Water and Natural Resources. Community input and data guide program development within these focus areas. Just as important as what is offered, however, is how it is delivered. JoCo Unite encourages a more flexible approach expanding beyond traditional formats to include varied delivery methods, convenient locations, and innovative partnerships that meet people where they are.

For some, that may mean attending an in-person workshop at a local library or community center. For others, it could look like joining a virtual session from home or accessing resources online at their own pace. By offering multiple entry points, Extension reduces common barriers such as transportation, scheduling conflicts, and access to information.

Partnerships also play a key role in expanding reach. By collaborating with local organizations, schools, municipalities, and community groups, Extension is able to connect with broader and more diverse audiences. These relationships help ensure that programs are not only accessible, but also culturally relevant and responsive to the unique needs of different populations across Johnson County.

As these efforts grow, so does Extension’s role as a connector. JoCo Unite strengthens the organization’s ability to bring together people, information, and resources in meaningful ways. Whether linking residents to educational opportunities, connecting partners to shared goals, or providing trusted, research-based information, Extension serves as a hub for community learning and collaboration.

Ultimately, expanding program delivery and accessibility is about creating opportunities for everyone to engage, learn, and benefit. Through JoCo Unite, Johnson County K-State Extension is building a more inclusive approach to outreach as one that supports informed decision-making and contributes to the overall well-being of the community.
