Four Ways to Support 4-H Members at the Johnson County Fair

Fair season is finally here, and it’s time to celebrate the amazing work of our local 4-H members! These dedicated youth spend countless hours caring for livestock, perfecting projects, and honing skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Through their hard work, 4-H members show off responsibility, creativity, and passion. What better way to celebrate their efforts than by showing your support at the Johnson County Fair?

Here are four ways you can help financially support 4-H members:

4-H Food Stand

1. Johnson County 4-H Council Food Stand

Feeling hungry during the fair? Stop by the 4-H Food Stand, staffed by 16 local 4-H clubs throughout the week. It’s a great way to enjoy some fair food while directly supporting 4-H activities and events throughout the year. Plus, it’s a perfect chance to chat with 4-H members and learn about their experiences.

2. Foods Auction

4-H Food Auction

After 4-H Foods judging on Monday, July 29, baked goods not sampled by judges are donated and auctioned the next day. Boxes filled with breads, cookies, cakes, and pies are sold to the public, with proceeds supporting 4-H Foods programs, prizes, and education throughout the year. The Foods Auction will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at 7:30 p.m. in the Grange Building.

4-H Project Auction

3. 4-H Project Auction
Held on Friday, August 1st at 8 p.m., the 4-H Project Auction, organized by the Johnson County Extension Education Foundation (JCEEF), features the projects members have worked on throughout the year. These can range from woodworking to crafts and everything in between. Buying a project supports future projects and the member’s dedication.

4. Livestock Auction
On Saturday, August 2nd at 1 p.m., the premium-only Livestock Auction offers buyers the chance to financially support 4-H members to help fund future projects and education for the youth. Please note this auction does not include purchasing the animal itself.

If purchasing at the auctions isn’t in your plans, consider making an “add-on” donation at checkout for either Project or the Livestock Auction to support your favorite 4-H’er. Any amount makes a difference!

This fair, take a moment to connect with a 4-H member and celebrate the skill, character, and community spirit they bring to Johnson County. For more information, visit the 4-H table in the Grange 4-H Building or call (913) 715-7000.
