Pollinating Possibilities: JCEEF Signature Event Helps Extension Thrive

Pollinators play an essential role in healthy ecosystems. As they move from plant to plant, they create connections that allow gardens, crops, and entire communities to flourish. In much the same way, the Johnson County Extension Education Foundation connects generous supporters with the people, programs, and ideas of Johnson County K-State Extension.

That spirit of connection was on full display during the successful 2026 JCEEF Signature Event. The annual fundraiser brought together donors, volunteers, partners, and friends who share a belief in Extension’s ability to provide trusted education, develop volunteers, and respond to the changing needs of Johnson County. Through event sponsorships, attendance, donations, and participation in online and in-person auctions, supporters helped plant the seeds for future educational opportunities throughout the county.

In 2026, JCEEF awarded 15 grants totaling $19,873. Like pollinators carrying what is needed from one place to another, JCEEF helps move resources where they can take root and make a difference. This year’s grants are supporting 4-H educational animal kits, volunteer recognition event, a replacement cooktop for Extension Master Food Volunteers, improvements at several Extension Master Gardener demonstration gardens, supplies for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, technology upgrades, volunteer appreciation, staff development, and Spanish translation. While each grant supports a different need, together they strengthen the entire Extension ecosystem.

The evening also highlighted JCEEF’s support for the 4-H Project Auction at the Johnson County Fair. The auction celebrates the creativity and hard work of local 4-H members while connecting them directly with community supporters. One especially fitting example was a 4-H member’s basket of prize-winning zinnias flowers that not only represented her learning and dedication for horticulture but also serves as an important food source for pollinators.

The success of the Signature Event extends far beyond one evening. Every sponsorship, auction bid, donation, and membership helps an idea grow, a volunteer serve, a young person learn, or a community member gain access to a valuable resource.

Thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored the event, donated an auction item, placed a bid, volunteered, or supported JCEEF in another way. As a thriving garden depends on many pollinators, the success of Johnson County K-State Extension depends on a strong network of people willing to share their time, resources, and support.
