Personal History/Background
Born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans, Crystal grew up with a love for good cooking and great food. A basic health class in grammar school sparked her interest and began her lifelong fascination with people's relationship with food and its consequences on their health. After graduating from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in history and communications, Crystal worked in the television industry producing documentaries for networks like A&E and the History Channel. But after moving to Kansas with her family in 2003, she found Johnson County K-State Research and Extension and the Master Food Volunteer program and never looked back. Crystal was the Family Nutrition Program (FNP) program assistant prior to becoming Family and Consumer Sciences Agent/Nutrition and Health. She lives in Olathe with her husband and young son.
