Pioneer 4-H Club
Club Description: Pioneer 4-H is a traditional club that was established over 60 years ago. The majority of our members are from De Soto, west Shawnee and west Lenexa. The club currently meets the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the De Soto United Methodist Church.
Pioneer is a community club. We currently have 40 members which comprise of 23 families. We consider our club as being well rounded. Our 4-H'er's interests include livestock (beef, sheep, poultry, swine, goat, dog and horse) as well as, foods and nutrition, clothing construction, arts/crafts, plant science, shooting sports, entomology, geology and many more. The club has exceptional adult volunteers to help lead our youth in the above projects. Pioneer has a Cloverbuds program for youth younger than 7. The group meets during our monthly meeting and follows a specialized curriculum.
Pioneer's main focus is community service. We collect food items for the food pantry, collect items for needy families during the holiday season, sing at the nursing home, ring bells for the Salvation Army and volunteer bi-monthly at Harvesters.
Many of our 4-H'ers have gone beyond our club to expand their leadership skills and promote 4-H. Currently we have two members on the Johnson County Ambassadors team, a member on the Kansas State 4-H Youth Council, and an attendee to the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.
Pioneer welcomes new members! Please contact our community leaders if you would like additional information about Pioneer.
