4-H Achievement Night Celebration

Win or lose, it's how you "play the game" or conduct your project work that is recognized each year in 4-H.

As October baseball is in full swing my mind keeps trying to come up with baseball analogies for 4-H. Seeing my two favorite teams still in the race for the pennant makes me happy. Just as November comes around in 4-H we take time to celebrate the yearlong efforts of our youth and volunteers through our annual Achievement Night Celebration.

Every year a 4-H'er works to increase their leadership opportunities through project work. There are over 30 projects youth can participate in through 4-H. For a list and short summary please visit:  http://www.kansas4-h.org/projects/ for an overview.

Just as in baseball, youth need to start with the fundamentals of their project work and learn the basics. As a youth grows from year to year in their 4-H project work they will be recognized and receive a new pin for their efforts. Starting as Cloverbuds (age 5-6) youth earn recognition at the annual Achievement Night Celebration.

Below is the list of membership pins a youth can earn while in 4-H:

  • Cloverbud
  • Membership – 1st year
  • Bronze – 2nd year
  • Clover – 3rd year
  • Emerald – 4th year
  • Silver – 5th year
  • Silver Guard – 6th year
  • Leadership – 7th year
  • Gold – 8th year
  • Gold Guard – 9th year
  • Additional pins available for years 10,11,12
  • Key Award – Highest Award

Youth are encouraged to participate in leadership roles within their community clubs. Their work as an officer will also be recognized during the achievement night celebration. Several of them require the officer to complete a book of their work accomplished in the position. The list of officers pins available to earn:

  • President
  • Vice President

  • Corresponding Secretary- requires book
  • Treasurer- requires book
  • Historian- requires book
  • Reporter- requires book
  • Parliamentarian- requires book
  • County Council Representative- requires County Council Activity Report

Celebrating success is an important aspect in youth programs. In 4-H we strive to celebrate and recognize this hard work from both the youth and the amazing adult volunteers we have in the program. If you are a baseball, football, soccer, volleyball, fishing, or cycling fan we can all relate to the joy we find in our success. It is our job to help the youth find joy in their 4-H work each year.
